About this event
Expected date. Buddha's Birthday is a statutory festival in Taiwan on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, as set out in the festivals act published with the DGPA 2027 calendar. The Gregorian date rests on the lunar calculation: the first day of the fourth lunar month in 2027 is 6 May, so the eighth day is Thursday 13 May 2027, the date also listed for Taiwan in international observance calendars. The Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum in Dashu, Kaohsiung, and temples of the major Buddhist orders hold Buddha bathing ceremonies in which visitors pour water over small Buddha statues, alongside vegetarian fairs and charity events. It is an observance, not a public holiday.
