Attractions

The things worth booking.

The museums, towers, old streets and day trips that people build a Taiwan trip around, city by city.

For each one we tell you how it is really booked (timed entry, advance only, a boat timetable, or just turn up) and give you a booking button wherever we have a partner link; where we do not, the card says how to book it, or that entry is free.

Before you go

A Taiwan eSIM

Land connected: a data eSIM bought before you fly is the simplest way to have maps, translation and train timetables working from the arrivals hall. Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone all sell tourist eSIMs, and the airport halls sell physical SIMs if your phone needs one.

How to book: Buy the eSIM online before departure, or a tourist SIM at any airport arrival hall with your passport.

Taoyuan airport transfers

The Airport MRT is the traffic-proof route into Taipei, but a pre-booked car wins with luggage, children or a late arrival: the driver waits in arrivals and the price is fixed before you land.

How to book: Booked online per car, not per person; the Airport MRT needs no booking at all.

High speed rail, west coast

Taipei to Kaohsiung in about an hour and a half transforms a Taiwan trip: the lantern season, a Taichung day trip and a Tainan food run all become one journey. Reserved seats sell out on long weekends, so the booking is part of the plan.

How to book: Tickets are sold at THSR stations, on the THSR website and app, and through convenience stores in Taiwan; visitor passes are sold by authorised agents abroad.
