About this event

Expected dates. The Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage is a nine day, eight night walk of about 340 kilometres from Jenn Lann Temple in Dajia, Taichung, to Fengtian Temple in Xingang, Chiayi, and back, and is a registered national folk custom. The start date is not fixed by the calendar: the temple sets it each year by divination on Lantern Festival day, so the 2027 date will only be confirmed on 20 February 2027. Recent editions have departed on a Friday night around the start of the third lunar month (17 April in 2026, returning 26 April), and the window shown follows that pattern, departing Friday 9 April and returning Sunday 18 April. Hundreds of thousands of followers walk some or all of the route, and towns along the way provide free food and lodging.
