About this event
Expected date. New Taipei City stages the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival on two evenings around Lantern Festival, with mass releases in waves through the night; the 2026 nights were 27 February at Pingxi and 3 March at Shifen. For 2027 the predicted first night is Sunday 14 February at Pingxi Junior High School, with the finale on Lantern Festival night, 20 February. The city tourism bureau normally confirms the programme about a month ahead, and free release vouchers are handed out on the day. Dates rest on the lunar pattern: the releases cluster on the weekends either side of the 15th day of the first lunar month.
