About this event
Expected date. The larger of Pingxi's two mass release nights is traditionally held on Lantern Festival day itself at Shifen Sky Lantern Square, beside the Shifen waterfall car park, with around nine waves of releases through the evening. Lantern Festival in 2027 falls on Saturday 20 February, the 15th day of the first lunar month (Lunar New Year Day is 6 February, so the 15th day is 6 plus 14 days). New Taipei City confirms the final programme about a month ahead; in 2026 the Shifen night was held on Lantern Festival day, 3 March. Expect road closures, shuttle buses from Taipei Zoo and severe crowding on the Pingxi rail line.
