About this event

Expected dates. The Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage walks from Gongtian Temple at Baishatun in Tongxiao, Miaoli, to Chaotian Temple in Beigang, Yunlin, and back, and is unique in Taiwan because the route is not planned: the palanquin bearers follow the goddess's direction at every junction, and the pink roofed palanquin is nicknamed the pink supercar. The dates are fixed by divination by the temple's festival committee early in the year; in 2026 they were chosen on 2 February and the pilgrimage ran eight days from Sunday 12 April to Monday 20 April, while the 2025 edition ran eleven days in May. The 2027 window mirrors the 2026 mid April shape and will be superseded when Gongtian Temple announces the divined dates. Registered pilgrims pay a small fee for the official vest, cap and armband; walking along is free.
