About this event

The published Taiwan holiday calendar lists the Hungry Ghost Festival on Monday 16 August 2027. The day is the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, when the gates of the underworld are believed to stand fully open. Families, businesses and neighbourhoods set out tables of food, fruit and incense, and temples hold large communal pudu ceremonies led by priests. It is an observance rather than a public holiday, so shops and offices keep normal hours. The biggest public celebrations are in Keelung, where the festival runs for the whole lunar month.
