About this event

Expected dates. The Miaoli Bombing Dragon is a Hakka Lantern Festival rite in which dragon dance teams are pelted with firecrackers to drive out evil, staged as a series: the dragon eye dotting ceremony, a dragon competition, a street carnival, the main Bombing Dragon night and the closing rite that returns the dragon to heaven. Miaoli County's tourism site lists the 2026 series from 25 February to 5 March, with the eye dotting on 25 February, the carnival on 27 February, Dragon Night on 28 February and the closing rite on 5 March, the 17th day of the first lunar month. The 2027 window mirrors the lunar shape, from the 9th lunar day, Sunday 14 February, to the closing rite on the 17th lunar day, Monday 22 February, with Miaoli also hosting the national Taiwan Lantern Festival that week. Miaoli City Office confirms the programme in January.
