About this event
Expected dates. Baiming, literally placing offerings through the night, is the Matsu Islands' distinctive Lantern Festival rite, listed in the Tourism Administration's 2026 to 2027 biennial calendar, in which villages set out tables of offerings and candles before their temples and carry the gods on night processions between settlements. Each village temple keeps its own night across the first lunar month, staggered so islanders can attend one another's rites; the best known early procession, at Banli in Beigan, falls on the 13th day of the first lunar month. In 2027 the 13th lunar day is Thursday 18 February (Lunar New Year Day, 6 February, plus 12 days), with processions continuing through Lantern Festival night, 20 February. Lienchiang County confirms the village by village schedule in the new year.
