About this event
Expected season. The Tourism Administration states that the Blue Tears can be appreciated from May to September annually in Matsu, although sightings depend on tides, wind and luck rather than planning. The glow is caused by marine dinoflagellates that light up when the water is disturbed, and it is best seen on moonless nights away from artificial light. Popular viewing spots include the Beihai Tunnel boat rides on Nangan, where light is strictly controlled, and quiet beaches on Beigan. Staying several nights improves the chance of a sighting, and guided night tours are sold locally.
